LIVE FILM CREATIVE LAB - Team Expression of Interest!

4 Teams. 4 Stories. Zero Safety Net.

Don’t just screen a film—perform it… live!

We are looking for four brave filmmaking teams to participate in a challenging and innovative 'Live Short Film Experience.' at the St Kilda Film Festival. You will devise, shoot, and perform a short live-broadcast film where EVERYTHING happens in real-time.

Overview

A high-intensity, two-day collaborative workshop where four pre-formed teams create four interconnected short films. Unlike a standard festival entry, these are Live Films. Every camera movement, every edit, and every performance is broadcast live to an audience. The result is a seamless 40-minute collaborative narrative where the end of one team's story provides the starting point for the next.

This is an exciting opportunity to gain streamlined experience in filmmaking from conception through to delivery, and a chance to jump headfirst into the thrilling world of live-cinema!

The Schedule

Sunday 7 June, 2026: The Blueprint (09:00 - 18:00)

  • Morning: Briefing on the technology, and "Anchor Points" (the transition moments). Theme and location reveal.

  • Afternoon: Devise, script, and block. Teams map out their "live edit" cues.

  • Goal: A full "choreography" of the shoot. By end-of-day, the narrative is locked.

Monday 8 June, 2026: The Tech & Performance (09:00 - 20:00)

  • Morning: Technical rehearsals. Aligning the "Live Stitch"—matching the exit of Team A with the entry of Team B etc.

  • Afternoon: Full dress rehearsals. Refining the live-edit cues and sound-syncing.

  • Evening: The Premiere. A live performance. The audience watches as the 40-minute film is captured and edited live, flowing through four distinct stories and locations.

Who Can Apply?

We want teams of 3-4 people who function like a single unit. Because the equipment is provided, we are looking for creative chemistry and a willingness to get stuck straight into the excting expereince of live cinema.

  • Core Crew: Minimum of 1 Director, and 2-3 Performers, maximum team size of 6 (camera and sound is provided).

What Is the Process?

Applications will close at 11:59 pm on Sunday 24 May 2026.
