The awards are free to enter and are held in conjunction with the National Gallery of Victoria's Melbourne Design Week in May.

Terms and conditions

Please read these terms and conditions before starting your application.

  • Late submissions will not be accepted.

  • All submissions must be lodged electronically using this webform unless alternative arrangements have been made with Council and agreed to prior to the closing date.

  • Projects may be submitted in multiple categories; however, entrants must complete a separate submission for each category.

  • Submissions may be disqualified if they are found to be incomplete and do not contain all the information requested on the submission form including images in the required format.

  • All submissions must be compliant with relevant legislation and permit requirements. Failure to comply will result in submissions being disqualified or awards being revoked.

  • All submissions must be for projects that have been completed between 1 January 2023 to 31 December 2025.

  • Projects that have been previously submitted for the Design and Development Awards are ineligible.

  • Projects must be within the municipality of the City of Port Phillip. 

  • All submissions must be the original work of the entrant and must not infringe on the intellectual property rights of any third party. Entrants are responsible for ensuring that their submissions comply with any applicable copyrights, trademarks, or other intellectual property rights. If entrants do not own the copyright for a project, they must have the appropriate consent for the work to be reproduced, exhibited, and published by Council with ownership being attributed to the owner. 

  • Applicants may be requested to provide further material for exhibition and publication. Should a submission be shortlisted, it may be displayed for public viewing. 

  • All material included in a submission may be used by Council for promotional purposes. 

  • Submission absolves the Council from any liability relating to confidentiality or intellectual property that may arise. 

  • All submissions will be judged by a jury of industry experts appointed by Council. The jury’s decision is final and is binding on all entrants.

  • All shortlisted submissions will require a site inspection by the jury, to be undertaken between March and April 2026. 

  • Any contact by entrants with the jury panel during the submission period up until the announcement of awards and specifically in relation to the awards is prohibited.

  • All submissions will automatically be considered for special jury awards in urban design, sustainability, heritage, cultural and community benefit. These may be awarded at the discretion of the jury.

  • Commendations may be awarded in any category, at the discretion of the jury.

  • The jury may choose not to confer an award in any category. 

  • Award winners will be announced at a ceremony on 21 May 2026. 

  • All award prizes are non-transferable, and no cash alternatives will be offered.

  • Council reserves the right to modify or amend these terms and conditions at any time. Entrants are encouraged to review the terms regularly.

  • Council reserves the right to disqualify any entrant who violates these terms and conditions or engages in fraudulent or unethical conduct.

  • By submitting an entry to the Design and Development Awards, entrants acknowledge that they have read, understood, and agree to abide by these terms and conditions.
